| Create your own simple video clip by joining several video fragments and by mixing them with music from audio file. |
You can make your own simple video clip by joining several video fragments and mixing them with music from audio file. Let's suppose we have 2 video files: Nightwish - Sleeping Sun.mpg and Enigma - Push the limits.mpg and one audio file: my_soundtrack.mp3 Our goal is to merge several pieces of these video files and to add soundtrack. |
| Method 1 - Merge video fragments by using BEGIN/END buttons and Vidmex Wizard |
Step 1 Launch Vidmex. Add 2 files in playlist:
Step 2 We will mark [0 - 0:07] and [1:11 - 1:24] ranges from file "Nightwish" (sum is 20 sec). And also the ranges from file "Enigma": [0:18 - 0:26] and [2:18 - 2:35] (sum is 25 sec). First of all, set current position to 00:00:07 by clicking on slider bar:
Click Pause or press Win+X. After that, click END. Vidmex Wizard window will pop up.
Next, drag mouse cursor on the slider to the position 00:01:11. Press BEGIN. After that, change current position to 00:01:24.
Click END.
So, we have marked two video fragments from file Nightwish - Sleeping Sun.mpg. By analogy, mark 00:00:18 - 00:00:26 and 00:02:18 - 00:02:35 fragments of the file Enigma - Push the limits.mpg by using BEGIN/END buttons. All these fragments will be automatically added into Vidmex Wizard:
Step 3 In Vidmex Wizard click the Merge video fragments button. Enter filename, change destination path and choose the option to merge only video streams (no sound).
Next, choose video codec. HUFFYUV is recommended for this intermediate step. It is lossless codec, so video information will be preserved. But anyway, you can always use XviD. Press Next, change optional codec settings and wait several minutes. |
Step 4 After the file myclip.avi is created click Open button and load myclip.avi file. Mark the 45 seconds from the beginning of the file with BEGIN/END buttons. Next, load my_soundtrack.mp3 audio file and mark the range 00:00:00 - 00:00:45 with BEGIN/END buttons. The fragments will be added into Vidmex Wizard automatically:
Step 5 Finally, click on Mix Video and Audio button in Vidmex Wizard. Enter filename, set the path and select the option to mix video and audio streams.
After that, choose MPEG Layer-3 audio codec and XviD video codec. Press Next, OK and wait several minutes. That's all. Your video clip is created. |
| Method 2 - Merge video fragments by using Vidmex Playlist |
Step 1 Launch Vidmex. Add 2 files in playlist:
Step 2 We are going to merge 4 fragments from two files, therefore we must prepare these files in playlist. Select the first file Nightwish - Sleeping Sun.mpg. Click on menu: Edit -> Copy and then Edit -> Paste. You can also use hot keys: Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. By analogy, copy and paste the second file: Enigma - Push the limits.mpg.
Step 3 Select the first file and click menu: Edit -> Set playback range or press R key. Set the Start/End positions to 00:00:00 and 00:00:07. Click Apply.
In this way, you must change Start/End positions of all files in playlist.
Step 4 Click menu: Operation -> Merge Video (or hot key Shift+V).
Step 5 After the file myclip.avi is created click menu Edit -> Remove All (or press Ctrl+Delete). Next, click Open button and load myclip.avi file. Also, add to playlist my_soundtrack.mp3 audio file.
Select my_soundtrack.mp3 file and click Edit -> Set playback range... or press R key. Fill in the values: 0 and 45 seconds.

Step 6 Finally, click on menu Operation -> Mix Audio/Video (or press M key). Enter filename, set the path and select the option to mix video and audio streams.
After that, choose MPEG Layer-3 audio codec and XviD video codec. Press Next, OK and wait several minutes. That's all. Your video clip is created. |
| Hint: Easy way to mark fragments of files in playlist |
In addition to the standard way of marking video fragment (R hot key) exist convenient hidden feature of Vidmex playlist. Playback ranges of video files in playlist can be specified very quickly by using only mouse buttons. In this example, let's consider possibility of setting playback range of the second file: Nightwish - Sleeping Sun.mpg. We need to mark 13 seconds of this file. Start position must be set to 00:01:11. First of all, double-click on the second file in playlist. So, video from the file will start playing in Vidmex. Next, try to change position of slider bar by holding left mouse button and dragging mouse cursor. Move it approximately to 00:01:11. Then right-click exactly on the empty first area - on the right side of the currently playing file in playlist:
Next, wait 13 seconds, or change position of slider bar again (by using mouse cursor). So, when the position of playing will reach the value of 00:01:24, right-click on the second area.
The result: playback range of the second file is set to 00:01:11 - 00:01:24.
In this way (just by clicking mouse buttons) it is possible to mark all necessary fragments in playlist and to merge them (menu: Operation -> Merge Video). |
