Resize video, optimize quality and size of video files for publishing in Internet

Video files with dimensions 640x480 or higher are too large for using in Internet. Some people still have slow internet access. So, you can use Vidmex for shrinking, quality decreasing and for optimizing of size of video files.

In this tutorial we will show you how to optimize AVI video file mymovie.avi using the best MPEG4 video codec XviD.

Input Video: DivX Dimensions are 640x480. Frame rate is 25 frames per second.
Input Audio: MP3 Channels: 2(stereo). Frequency: 44Khz. Bit rate: 320 kbps.
Length: 16 seconds. File Size: 2.5 MB

Step 1

Install these codecs:

Launch Vidmex.

Add video file into Vidmex Playlist. Select the file. In Vidmex Playlist: click menu File -> Add File(s).... Open video (for example, mymovie.avi).

Step 2

Extract video. Select file by clicking on filename in playlist or press Ctrl+A. Next, press V hot key or click on menu Operation -> Extract Video. Vidmex Wizard window will pop up.

Enter new filename (for example: my_resized_movie) and choose destination path where file will be saved.

Now, choose low quality parameters (for example: Mono 48khz 48kbps) and optimal audio codec: MP3 Encoder.

In the next step set smaller Video Dimension parameters (for example: 176x144). Also, Frame rate can be reduced. Choose XviD codec.

Note: Some codecs (such as DivX) does not support very small video size parameters (120x120, 80x80)

Final video size you encode should be a multiple of 16 (in both width and height)!

Because MPEG-4 (Xvid) uses 16x16 macroblocks, you must make sure that each dimension of the video you are encoding is a multiple of 16: 1280x720, 720x576, 720x480, 704x576, 704x480, 640x480, 640x368, 480x576, 480x480, 384x288, 352x288, 352x240, 320x240 etc.

Press Next. Standard codec configuration window will appear. Set XviD target quantizer to 10 (small file, reasonable quality).

Press OK and wait several minutes.

Video Codec: XviD Dimensions are 176x144. Frame rate is 15 frames per second.
Audio Codec: MP3 Encoder Channels: 1(mono). Frequency: 48Khz. Bit rate: 48 kbps.
Length: 16 seconds. File Size: 482 Kb

So, with Vidmex software we have resized 2.5MB DivX file into small 482Kb XviD file. Now you can upload this short movie to your web site.
